In May of 1964, two of golf's
titans, Ben Hogan and Sam Snead met at the Houston Country Club for one
of the game's greatest matches. Shell's Wonderful World of Golf
presented the head-to-head match between Hogan, one of golf's most
intense competitors and holder of nine Major Championship titles, and
Snead, the all-time PGA Tour title winner with a record of eighty-four
victories and possessor of one of the game's sweetest swings. The
Ben Hogan/Sam Snead match featured the two best players of their
generation.
From 1962-1970 the Emmy award winning Shell's Wonderful World of Golf
series produced 94 matches in 48 countries. The series was the
first introduction to televised golf for many fans around the world.
This match, which first aired on February 21, 1965, was played at the
Houston Country Club. The difficult Robert Trent Jones-designed
course with its mammoth fairways and greens provided a superb test for
these two legends. Each player displayed the magic that made them
heroes as Hogan's pin-point ball striking and Snead's power were on
display all day long.
For the first time in over 30 years, watching these titans of the game
is now possible for golf fans with the video release of the classic
